On the principal minors of Fourier matrices

Published 15 Sep 2024 in math.FA | (2409.09793v4)

Abstract: For the NN-dimensional Fourier matrix FN\mathcal{F}_N, we prove that if N≥4N\geq 4 is square-free, then every 2×22 \times 2 and 3×33\times 3 principal minor of FN\mathcal{F}_N is nonzero. We also show that if N≥4N\geq 4 is not square-free, then FN\mathcal{F}_N has zero principal minors of all sizes. Moreover, based on numerical experiments, we conjecture that if NN is square-free, then all principal minors of FN\mathcal{F}_N are nonzero.
