Degrees of mutual coherence of a 3D polarization state

Abstract: The absolute values of the three degrees of mutual coherence between the analytic signals representing the components of the electric field of a given three-dimensional (3D) polarization state are relative quantities that depend on the laboratory reference frame considered. The extremal values for the said absolute values are determined and analyzed. The reduction to the well-known conventional 2D case is retrieved in a natural way.
