A note on multiplicative functions resembling the Möbius function

Published 29 Aug 2019 in math.NT | (1908.11014v1)

Abstract: We provide examples of multiplicative functions ff supported on the squarefree integers, such that on primes f(p)=±1f(p)=\pm1 and such that Mf(x):=nxf(n)=o(x)M_f(x):=\sum_{n\leq x} f(n)=o(\sqrt{x}). Further, by assuming the Riemann hypothesis (RH) we can go beyond x\sqrt{x}-cancellation.
