Whispering gallery effect in relativistic optics (1801.04154v1)
Published 12 Jan 2018 in physics.plasm-ph
Abstract: A relativistic laser pulse, confined in a cylindrical target, performs multiple scattering along the target surface. The confinement property of the target results in a very effcient interaction. This proccess, which is just yet another example of the "whispering gallery" effect, may pronounce itself in plenty of physical phenomena, including surface grazing electron acceleration and generation of relativistic magnetized plasma structures.
