Supercharacters and the discrete Fourier, cosine, and sine transforms

Abstract: Using supercharacter theory, we identify the matrices that are diagonalized by the discrete cosine and discrete sine transforms, respectively. Our method affords a combinatorial interpretation for the matrix entries.
