A Large area GEM Detector Using an improved Self-stretch Technique

Abstract: A GEM detector with an effective area of 30*30 cm2 has been constructed using an improved self-stretch technique, which enables an easy and fast GEM assembling. The design and assembling of the detector is described. Results from tests of the detector with 8 keV X-rays on effective gain and energy resolution are presented.
