Substituting desktop/server GPU PMCs on mobile GPUs

Identify substitute performance monitoring counters on mobile GPUs that can represent the manually selected PMCs used in prior desktop/server GPU PMC-based power models, to enable applying those models across architectures.

Background

Prior PMC-based GPU power models for desktop/server GPUs rely on manually chosen performance monitoring counters tailored to those architectures. Because PMCs are architecture specific, reusing such models on mobile GPUs requires finding mobile PMCs that serve as substitutes for the desktop/server PMCs.

The authors report that, in attempting to transfer these models to mobile GPUs, they were unable to identify equivalent mobile PMCs that represent the manually selected desktop/server PMCs, highlighting a cross-architecture portability challenge.

We have tried but are not able to find substitute PMCs in mobile GPUs that can represent the manually selected PMCs in the prior-art desktop/server based GPU model.
