Adequacy of a simple magnetar model

Determine whether a simple magnetar spin-down model can account for the possible far-ultraviolet emission features observed in SN 2025wny.

Background

The paper finds that magnetar models can qualitatively reproduce some properties of SN 2025wny, including its far-ultraviolet excess, apparent photospheric reheating, and portions of its spectral evolution. However, the observations also suggest multiple emission components or multiple powering mechanisms.

The possible far-ultraviolet emission features are not naturally explained by the simple magnetar interpretation considered in the paper. The authors therefore leave unresolved whether magnetar spin-down alone is sufficient, or whether additional ejecta structure or another ultraviolet-emission source is required.
