Shared Mechanisms Between Human and Machine Learning

Determine how much of the differentiation, recoherence, and related learning mechanism identified in the Boolean-function-state analysis is shared by human learning.

Background

The paper interprets learning as the reorganization of a learned function-state under data-derived constraints. In the studied Transformer, the learned state differentiates, later recoheres toward a target-selective organization, and can undergo retreat and recovery even when the identifiable constraint graph remains fixed.

The conclusion suggests that human learning might be described in analogous terms, but the paper does not establish whether the same mechanism operates in humans or quantify the extent of any shared mechanism. This unresolved comparison is therefore the only explicitly stated open question that is not answered within the paper.

Human learning can be described this way, although how much of the mechanism is shared is an open question.
