Seasonal variability of Southern Ocean sea-ice drift

Investigate whether the reported Southern Ocean sea-ice drift spectral structure and dimensionality findings vary over seasonal timescales as additional observations become available.

Background

The study compares Arctic seasonal composites with individual Southern Ocean campaigns, but the Southern Ocean observations are sparse, heterogeneous, and generally short in duration. Consequently, the analysis cannot determine whether the reported frequency-domain structure and low-dimensionality characteristics are stable across seasons in the Southern Ocean.

The authors identify the lack of sufficient Southern Ocean data as preventing a seasonal investigation and indicate that the analysis should be revisited as additional observations are collected. Establishing seasonal consistency would clarify the extent to which the reported cross-polar benchmarks can support future observing-system and campaign design.
