Sample-optimal mixed-state broadcasting

Prove that the purify–clone–trace (PCT) cloner is sample-optimal for broadcasting arbitrary rank-at-most-r mixed quantum states under the one-register marginal fidelity criterion.

Background

Broadcasting differs from global cloning because the output is evaluated through its one-register marginals rather than by fidelity to the full tensor-power target ρn+k. The paper notes that Werner’s pure-state cloner is optimal for pure-state broadcasting.

The unresolved extension is whether the PCT cloner, which applies random purification, Werner’s cloner, and then traces out the purification registers, remains sample-optimal for mixed-state broadcasting.

References

We conjecture that the PCT cloner is likewise sample-optimal for mixed state broadcasting.
