Resolve the isolated-entity performance gap

Resolve the residual performance gap between the reified vanilla-GNN models and ULTRA on link-prediction benchmarks containing isolated entities, and determine whether a query-conditioned readout alone eliminates the remaining failure mode and the grouping of isolated candidates.

Background

On the FBNELL benchmark, the paper’s plain-readout reified GNNs assign identical states to isolated entities and suffer severe ranking degradation. Query-conditioned-readout variants reduce but do not eliminate the discrepancy with ULTRA. The authors identify the residual gap and the persistent grouping of isolated candidates as unresolved, and propose a controlled ablation changing only the readout to distinguish the effect of the readout from other recipe differences.

What remains open is the residual gap to ULTRA on that split (0.43 against 0.47 for the best of the six) and the grouping of the isolated candidates that persists, for the single-graph models, on the queries whose own answer is isolated; a controlled ablation that changes the readout and nothing else would separate the readout from the recipe.
