Reliable implementation of KIK for adiabatic tunable-coupler gates

Determine how the KIK protocol can be implemented reliably for adiabatic tunable-coupler gates, for which a straightforward and dependable implementation is not established.

Background

The paper contrasts gate insertion (GI), which is broadly compatible with hardware platforms, with KIK, which uses a noisy pulse-inverse evolution and therefore depends on platform-specific control capabilities. KIK has been implemented or described straightforwardly for Mølmer–Sørensen gates in trapped ions and for parametric tunable-coupler and cross-resonance gates in superconducting circuits.

The authors identify adiabatic tunable-coupler gates as a platform for which the reliable implementation of KIK remains unresolved. They further note that the feasibility of KIK on neutral-atom and optical platforms has not yet been explored, but the explicit uncertainty marker supporting the included problem is the statement that implementation for adiabatic tunable-coupler gates remains unclear.

For other implementations, such as adiabatic tunable-coupler gates, it remains unclear how KIK can be implemented reliably.
