Quantify the exploitation of audit-rate variation through cross-window memory

Determine how much an adversary can gain by learning audit-rate patterns across windows through persistence channels that are themselves held and audited by the escrow mechanism.

Background

A patient adversary can benefit from variation in the audit rate by acting selectively in windows with unusually weak auditing. The paper establishes that constant audit rates are preferable, but notes that exploiting variation requires the adversary to learn the pattern across windows.

Such learning requires persistence across resets. Because the mechanism audits the channels that can carry persistent state, the unresolved issue is the net advantage available after accounting for the crossings required to acquire and retain information about the audit schedule.
