Nature of the X-ray emission in N79S2 (point-like vs. diffuse)

Ascertain whether the X-ray emission detected in N79S2 that is coincident with the young stellar objects Y9, Y10, and Y11 is point-like or diffuse, accounting for the off-axis Chandra ACIS-I point spread function and limited net counts.

Background

Beyond the main target H72.97−69.39, the Chandra field includes N79S2, where the authors detect 12±5 net broad-band counts spatially coincident with three JWST-identified young stellar objects.

Due to the off-axis Chandra PSF and the small angular extent (~5″), the authors explicitly state they cannot determine whether the emission is unresolved (point-like) or diffuse, leaving the nature of the X-ray emission in N79S2 unresolved.

References

The angular extent of the emission, ∼5″, is consistent with the off-axis PSF of Chandra, and thus, we are unable to distinguish whether the emission is point-like or diffuse in nature.
