Measure the effects of unneeded corrective constructions on readers

Determine whether unneeded uses of the Mandarin corrective construction bushi X, ershi Y cause reader annoyance or impair comprehension.

Background

The paper evaluates contextual appropriateness using linguistic criteria and identifies many model-generated uses as optional because they are correct but unneeded, including uses lacking contextual licensing or failing to advance the discourse issue.

It does not assess how readers respond to these optional uses. A user study is therefore needed to determine whether the observed appropriateness failures have perceptual or comprehension consequences.

References

Whether unneeded uses cause annoyance or affect comprehension requires a separate user study.
