Experimental measurement of the 151Eu feedstock-production reactions

Measure experimentally the 151Eu(p,2n)150Gd and 151Eu(d,3n)150Gd cross sections to validate the predicted production rates and purity of the 150Gd feedstock.

Background

The first stage of the proposed production chain creates the extinct 150Gd feedstock from europium. Its yield estimates rely on TENDL-2025 predictions for the proton and deuteron reactions, while the reported calculations also affect projected impurity levels and the feasibility of scaling feedstock production.

Because the relevant reactions had not been experimentally measured, the paper identifies validation of these predictions as an unresolved requirement for the stage-one supply estimates.

References

Neither of these two feedstock-producing reactions has a published experimental measurement.
