Joint AMC–AMS adaptation with legacy coexistence

Validate joint adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and adaptive model selection (AMS) operation using common channel-quality-indicator feedback while guaranteeing coexistence between two-sided AI models and legacy 5G New Radio systems.

Background

The paper observes that conventional AMC uses channel-quality-indicator (CQI) feedback to select a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) from an MCS table, while AMS can use the same CQI feedback to select a model-and-surrogate-channel (MSC) pair from an MSC table. A unified adaptation mechanism would coordinate these selections rather than treating radio transmission parameters and two-sided AI model selection separately.

The unresolved issue is whether such joint AMC–AMS operation can be validated while preserving legacy coexistence. The problem is motivated by the need to integrate two-sided AI models into practical 5G/6G deployments without disrupting conventional New Radio users.
