Identify the host of HU1’s Lyman-alpha emission

Determine whether HU1’s observed Lyman-alpha emission originates from Emission Knot B, Emission Knot C, or both knots within the HU1 system.

Background

HU1 contains three faint continuum-emitting emission knots that are spatially associated with extended Lyman-alpha emission. Different MOSFIRE slit-mask configurations provide evidence that either Knot B or Knot C may be associated with the nebular emission, while Knot A has no corresponding line detection. The available data do not establish which knot, or whether multiple knots, hosts the Lyman-alpha-emitting galaxy; deeper rest-optical spectroscopy is needed to resolve the ambiguity.

References

Both Knot B and Knot C were included on a mask where HU1 was detected. Therefore, it is appears that Emission Knot B or Knot C could be the host galaxy of the \L\alpha emission seen in KCWI.
