Exclude clumped Ulam elements followed by a large gap
Determine how to exclude, for the Ulam sequence, the scenario in which sequence elements occur in clumped groups followed by a very large gap, thereby resolving the principal obstruction to deriving stronger growth conclusions from the small-gap strategy.

The main obstruction appears to be the one shown in Figure 1: the scenario where elements of the sequence arise in groups that are clumped together followed by a huge gap to the next element. It is not clear to us how to exclude this scenario.
