Establish whether Ark 564 exhibits softer-when-brighter behavior in warm-corona parameters

Establish whether the softer-when-brighter behavior observed in Seyfert galaxies is encoded in the warm-corona Comptonization parameters of Ark 564 over longer observing timescales.

Background

The Swift/XRT monitoring shows substantial long-term variability in Ark 564, but the Simpl photon index exhibits no significant variability, probably because of the limited quality of the individual spectra. The paper therefore cannot determine whether changes in the warm-corona Comptonization parameters track the commonly observed softer-when-brighter behavior of Seyfert galaxies.

The authors identify higher-quality long-term XMM-Newton monitoring or simultaneous broadband NuSTAR observations as necessary to resolve this question on longer timescales.

References

Higher-quality long-term monitoring observations with XMM-Newton or simultaneous broadband overage with NuSTAR would be needed to investigate whether the softer-when-brighter behavior widely observed in Seyfert galaxies is also encoded in the warm corona Comptonization parameters of Ark~564 on longer timescales.
