Establish whether background-induced flow-splitting slopes in v2 and v3 must be quantitatively equal

Ascertain whether the charge-asymmetry slope parameters extracted from elliptic flow v2 and triangular flow v3 are quantitatively the same when they arise purely from non-CME background correlations in heavy-ion collisions, and determine under what conditions such an equality should hold.

Background

In chiral magnetic wave (CMW) searches, the dependence of flow splitting on event charge asymmetry is characterized by a slope parameter. Triangular-flow-based measurements are often used as a baseline for background contributions to the elliptic-flow slope.

The authors caution, however, that it remains unresolved whether the background-induced slopes in v2 and v3 should be quantitatively identical, which is critical for interpreting CMW-related observables.

References

It should also be emphasized that whether the slope parameters in v2 and v3 contributed by pure backgrounds should be quantitatively the same or not, is still an open question that calls for more investigations.
