Effect of finer tomographic redshift slicing

Determine to what extent using more and thinner redshift slices improves the performance of the damped-filter weak-lensing galaxy-cluster detection method, particularly its completeness under the tomographic approach.

Background

The damped-filter method uses a distinctive tomographic strategy in which the shear catalogue is divided into 100 equally spaced, thin redshift slices. This approach produces the largest improvement over the method’s integrated version under the ranked geometrical matching procedure, although its completeness remains below that of the other methods.

Because no other detection method in the challenge tested a comparable finer slicing strategy, the paper does not establish whether increasing the number of redshift slices, or making them thinner, would yield further gains. The authors therefore leave the magnitude of any such improvement unresolved.

References

It remains unclear to what extent using more and thinner redshift slices would help, given that no other method has tested this strategy.
