E10 symmetry in the g→0 limit of the 1D maximal SO(10)-gauged supergravity

Establish a realization of the hyperbolic exceptional group E10 in the zero-coupling limit g→0 of the one-dimensional maximal SO(10)-gauged supergravity with 32 supercharges that captures the lowest Kaluza–Klein sector around the D(−1) instanton background, in accordance with Julia’s conjecture.

Background

The authors construct a new maximal gauged supergravity in one dimension, arising from an S9 truncation and designed to holographically capture the lowest Kaluza–Klein multiplet of IIB supergravity on the D(−1) instanton background. In higher dimensions D>1, ungauging (g→0) yields toroidally reduced maximal supergravity with enhanced E_{11−D} symmetry.

By analogy, the authors point to the expectation that in D=1 the ungauged limit should realize the hyperbolic exceptional group E10, aligning with a longstanding conjecture by Julia. Demonstrating this symmetry realization in the present model is an explicit open direction connected to that conjecture.

References

For the present model this would suggest a highly non-trivial realization of the hyperbolic exceptional group E10 on the g→0 limit of (SUGRAL), in line with the longstanding conjecture of Julia.
