Direct β-feeding from the 34Al 1+ isomer to the 34Si 0+ states

Determine the direct β-feeding intensities from the 34Al isomeric 1+ level to the 34Si 0+ ground state and first excited 0+ state, which were not extractable from the present data set.

Background

Because the 1+ isomeric component in the beam was small and most γ-ray intensity in both β decays feeds through the 3326 keV 2+ state in 34Si, the uncertainties in direct β feeding were large. Consequently, the authors normalized positive-parity β feeding using prior results rather than determining the direct feedings themselves.

Direct β-feeding values to the 0+ states are critical for quantifying intruder configurations and testing shell-model predictions of cross-shell excitations in 34Si.
