Determine whether the SN 2018bsz modulation is strictly periodic

Determine whether the approximately 32-day recurrent modulation in the post-peak multiband light curve of SN 2018bsz represents strict periodicity rather than quasi-periodic variability, using observations spanning more than the approximately three currently observed cycles.

Background

The study identifies a recurrent photometric modulation with a best-fitting rest-frame timescale of approximately 31.6 days across optical and near-infrared bands. However, the observations cover only about three cycles, which is insufficient to establish whether the recurrence timescale remains strictly constant over a longer baseline.

The authors consequently characterize the signal as quasi-periodic rather than periodic. Additional well-sampled observations over more cycles would be needed to test for period evolution and to distinguish a genuinely periodic clock from a transient or evolving recurrence pattern.

References

Because the observations cover only approximately three cycles, we do not regard them as establishing strict periodicity.
