Determine whether gate gain is proportional to decision resolution

Determine whether, at a matched firing rate, a decision-model gate’s gain over a random gate is proportional to its resolution, defined as the difference between its true-positive and false-positive rates.

Background

The paper formulates H2 as a hypothesis about the value of gates that decide whether to invoke an agent module such as reflection. The proposed utility expression depends on the gate’s resolution, defined as TPR minus FPR, and predicts that utility gain should increase proportionally with this quantity when firing rates are matched.

The authors report that H2 could not be estimated in their experiments, leaving the proposed relationship empirically unresolved.

H1 and H3 were falsified, and H2 could not be estimated (App.~\ref{app:metagold}).
