Determine element-specific electronic-stopping cutoffs

Determine the optimal kinetic-energy cutoff for applying electronic stopping to atoms in collision-cascade simulations for each elemental metal considered.

Background

The simulations apply the same 5 eV electronic-stopping cutoff to every element, although published recommendations differ between materials such as iron, tungsten, nickel, palladium, and platinum.

The authors explicitly state that the appropriate cutoff remains unknown for many of the elements studied. Establishing element-specific values would improve the physical consistency of the cascade simulations.

References

However, there are many elements in this work for which we do not know the optimal value for the cutoff, therefore we opted to use the same cutoff in all cases for the sake of consistency.
