Determine the crystalline-electric-field contribution to the specific heat

Determine the contribution of crystalline-electric-field effects to the specific heat of Ce₄Ge₇, which cannot be estimated from the analysis presented using the available specific-heat data.

Background

Ce₄Ge₇ is a moderately correlated antiferromagnet with a Néel temperature of approximately 7.3 K and a Sommerfeld coefficient of 92 mJ/(mol-Ce K²). The authors estimate the electronic entropy and Kondo temperature from specific-heat measurements, but note that the crystalline-electric-field contribution cannot be separated in their analysis. Resolving this contribution is important for determining the low-energy electronic and magnetic level structure of the Ce ions and for interpreting the entropy and Kondo-screening behavior.
