Bound fraction of recently ejected circumstellar material

Determine what fraction of the recently ejected circumstellar material surrounding water fountains and obscured post-asymptotic-giant-branch stars remains bound to the binary system and can contribute to circumbinary-disc formation.

Background

The paper proposes that water fountains and obscured post-asymptotic-giant-branch stars may represent post-mass-transfer progenitors of the observed shell-burning stripped giant binaries. These objects possess substantial amounts of recently ejected circumstellar material, but the material may be partly unbound and expanding rather than organized into a long-lived circumbinary disc. Establishing the bound fraction is therefore important for assessing whether these systems can produce the initially massive discs required for significant eccentricity pumping.

While it is unclear what fraction of the recently ejected circumstellar material is in bound orbits around these objects, we speculate that the observed expanding torii could be an intermediate stage in the CBD formation process.
