Relationship between binarity and rotation or angular-momentum loss

Determine whether binarity is correlated with the projected rotational velocities of intermediate-mass pre-main-sequence stars in Trumpler 14.

Background

The study cross-matches Trumpler 14 members with catalogs of eclipsing binaries, spectroscopic binaries, and RS Canum Venaticorum variables. The available subsamples are very small, and projected rotational velocities may be affected by blended spectral lines or orbital motion.

Because of these limitations, the paper does not establish whether binarity contributes to the slow rotation of intermediate-mass pre-main-sequence stars. A larger sample with reliable binary classifications and uncontaminated rotation measurements would be needed to resolve the relationship.

References

Given the extremely small samples and the possibility that $v \sin i$ may not necessarily measure rotation but could be blended with binary orbital motion, we could not draw any conclusion regarding a correlation with binarity.
