Strong-kick-variance MFPT

Develop an analytical description of the mean first passage time for a passive Brownian particle and a dimer driven by Poisson shot noise in the strong kick-variance limit, beyond the small-variance approximation.

Background

The paper derives analytical MFPT expressions by replacing Poisson shot noise with an effective diffusion only when the kick variance is small. For general kick variance, higher-order derivatives appear in the backward Fokker–Planck equation, and the MFPT must be obtained numerically. The authors explicitly identify the absence of an analytical treatment in the strong kick-variance regime as unresolved.

An analytical description of the MFPT in the strong kick-variance limit remains an open question.
