A Cylindrical GEM Inner Tracker for the BESIII Experiment: from Construction to Electronic Noise Studies (2202.11977v1)
Abstract: This thesis reports the various phases of the life cycle of a cylindrical GEM detector, developed within the context of the CGEM-IT project. This represents the Italian proposal for the upgrade of the BESIII inner tracker, which has been suffering from aging phenomena due to the high luminosity. The construction of the detector at Frascati National Laboratories and the early phases of its commissioning at IHEP are described in detail. In the last two chapters, noise studies on data collected using a CGEM detector with a full readout chain near the BEPC-II interaction point will be presented, starting from the quality assurance tests of the on-detector electronics. The measurements are realized exploiting the different operative phases of the BEPC-II storage ring and aim to provide an estimate of the noise level variation due to the surrounding environment.
