Abstract: This manuscript will provide a brief overview on Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (LR-WPAN) for 802.15.4 protocol standard which was approved by IEEE Computer Society in May 2003. 802.15.4 standard presents some advantages for structuring sensor networks and other types of applications that require low rate communications. Some security considerations will also be presented.
