2. Parametric and Constrained Characterizations

Convexity assures global optimality in classical cases; nonconvex models empirically trace the boundary but require careful optimization parameter selection (Rozendaal et al., 2020).

3. Multiterminal and Distributed Rate–Distortion Regions

Beyond point-to-point coding, multiterminal and distributed models generalize the region to multiple encoders, correlated observations, and latent variables.

4. Rate–Distortion with Perception and Privacy Constraints

Tracking the optimal solution curve exploits higher-order implicit derivatives, via derivative tensors of the operator root, yielding efficient local Taylor approximations and systematic detection of bifurcations (Agmon, 2022).

Algorithmically, this allows high-precision traversal of the tradeoff region with drastically reduced computational cost relative to grid search, with block-wise complexity scaling as O(MNpoly(l,M))O(M N \,\mathrm{poly}(l,M)) per segment (Agmon, 2022).

6. Optimality Conditions and Extensions to Non-Classical Models

7. Applied Models: Video Coding, Federated Learning, and Distributed Compression
