Scaling ConventionPlay to Complex Convention Structures

Investigate whether ConventionPlay can scale to environments containing many overlapping or complex convention structures.

Background

ConventionPlay identifies conventions primarily from cross-play returns and evaluates its capability-limited training hierarchy on relatively small convention populations. The authors note that this scope may not adequately address environments in which conventions overlap extensively or exhibit more complex structural relationships. Extending the approach to such settings would test whether convention discovery and capability-limited partner training remain effective beyond the relatively simple structures studied experimentally.

References

Additionally, our evaluation focuses on relatively small populations of conventions; scaling to environments with many overlapping or complex convention structures remains an open question.
