Behavior of restoration strength at intermediate update dispersion

Determine how the restoration strength parameter \(\kappa\) behaves for intermediate values of the expert-update dispersion statistic \(D\), beyond the empirically observed low- and high-dispersion regimes.

Background

CORAM selects its amplification coefficient as λ=κN\lambda=\kappa\sqrt{N}, using the dispersion statistic DD to distinguish between two empirically observed regimes. Low-dispersion suites, with comparable expert-update magnitudes, favor near-full restoration with κ\kappa approximately 1.15, whereas the single high-dispersion suite favors partial restoration with κ\kappa approximately 0.5.

Only low- and high-dispersion bases are represented in the evaluated public expert suites. Consequently, the paper does not characterize whether κ\kappa varies continuously, abruptly, or according to another rule for intermediate values of DD.
