Resolve the non-unique next-state energy for MoSe2 and WSe2

Determine the next p-state energies of MoSe2 and WSe2 by obtaining independent information on the relevant dark-state symmetries, energies, and couplings, because the present spectra do not uniquely determine those predictions.

Background

The fixed-q positive single-pole construction yields a frozen 4p target for WS2, but the analogous data for MoSe2 and WSe2 permit multiple higher-pole continuations. The authors therefore distinguish the conditional WS2 prediction from the unresolved prediction problem in the other materials. Independent measurements of dark-state properties are required before model-independent exclusion ranges for their future 4p energies can be established.

References

Present data can rule out a particular minimum construction. They cannot fix a unique next-state energy.
