Extended double-shuffle derivation of multiple-zeta-value duality

Determine whether the duality relations for multiple zeta values follow from the extended double-shuffle relations.

Background

The introduction situates duality relations among multiple zeta values as a fundamental class of identities and notes that their structural origin remains unresolved. In particular, although duality is well established, it is not known whether these relations can be derived from the extended double-shuffle relations, another major family of multiple-zeta-value relations.

This question is distinct from the paper’s main result: the paper proves Hirose’s q-duality conjecture for finite sums associated with admissible words, but it does not address the derivability of classical multiple-zeta-value duality from extended double-shuffle relations.

References

Nevertheless, duality remains a subtle and mysterious phenomenon: it is still unknown, for example, whether these relations follow from the extended double shuffle relations.
