Multiple Configurations Serving the Same Job Class

Develop an extension of the DART policy and the reconfigurable polling-system model in which a job class can be served by several configurations, potentially at different service rates.

Background

The paper models each job class as being served by exactly one configuration in a strongly connected directed configuration graph. DART selects target configurations, follows shortest reconfiguration paths, and may opportunistically serve jobs at intermediate configurations to control weighted high-percentile sojourn times.

The evaluation explicitly restrictss results to the single-serving-configuration setting. Extending the model and policy to permit multiple configurations to serve the same class, with possibly heterogeneous service rates, is identified as work not addressed by the paper.

References

These results assume each job class is served by a single configuration. Allowing a class to be served by several configurations, possibly at different service rates, is a natural extension we leave to future work.
