Mass-ratio dependence of binary–SMBH encounters

Systematically determine how relaxing the equal-mass assumption changes the dynamics and outcomes of solar-like-star–white-dwarf binary encounters with a supermassive black hole, including the resulting eccentric TDE and debris-envelope properties.

Background

The study adopts an equal-mass solar-like star–white-dwarf binary to reduce the parameter space to a single initial orbital phase. The authors argue that changing the mass ratio should have a relatively weak effect at the approximately ten-percent level, but they do not systematically test this claim.

A systematic mass-ratio study is therefore needed to establish the robustness of the reported phase-dependent disruption, collision, capture, and hypervelocity outcomes.
