Interplay between pressure–stiffness ratio and plateau regimes

Understand how the pressure–stiffness ratio gamma interacts with the distinct plateau regimes identified by Bouckley et al. in one-dimensional soft-media compaction models.

Background

The paper extends one-dimensional compaction models by incorporating radial compliance through an elastic membrane. Its asymptotic analysis introduces the parameter gamma = 2P/(S+2), which measures the imposed pressure relative to membrane stiffness. The authors compare their results with the plateau-forming and non-plateau-forming regimes classified by Bouckley et al. according to the exponents in the permeability and effective-stiffness laws.

Although the paper establishes how finite wall compliance destroys a terminal compaction plateau for the constitutive choices studied, it does not determine how gamma modifies or interacts with the different plateau regimes arising from alternative permeability and stiffness exponents. The authors explicitly identify this comparison as future work.
