Design of a Forward Neutrino Detector at a Muon Collider

Determine the design of a forward neutrino detector for a muon collider, including the detector configuration and characteristics needed to support the proposed MuColν neutrino-physics program.

Background

The paper studies neutrino trident production at the proposed MuColν experiment, a forward neutrino detector positioned downstream of a muon-collider storage-ring straight section. The predicted event rates depend on detector properties such as the target material, mass, geometry, density, and operating conditions.

Because no definitive detector design has yet been established, the analysis adopts a conservative benchmark inspired by the proposed FASER2 spectrometer and calorimeter systems at the Forward Physics Facility: a 10 kg tungsten detector operating for one year. The authors note that event numbers can be rescaled for larger detectors, but the actual forward-detector design remains unresolved.
