Transport control using particle-wall alignment interactions

Determine how particle-wall alignment interactions can be exploited to facilitate the transport of active particles through narrow channels.

Background

The paper demonstrates that particle-wall alignment interactions can either suppress or enhance the diffusivity of chiral and achiral active particles, depending on the stable self-propulsion orientations and the relevant rotational and chiral torques. A remaining unresolved question is how these interactions can be deliberately engineered or employed to facilitate active-particle transport rather than merely modify its diffusion characteristics.

Further, our study brings up several related issues for future work. Specifically, can particle-wall interaction break spatial symmetry to induce autonomous directed motion or other non-equilibrium phenomena? How can particle-wall interaction be exploited to facilitate the transport of active particles?
