Extend scheduled trotterization to more general product formulas

Investigate whether the variable-weight scheduling ideas developed for first-order trotterization apply to more general product formulas, including higher-order product formulas.

Background

The paper develops scheduled trotterization for first-order product formulas, where pulse weights vary between steps while the ordering of the available Hamiltonians is preserved. Under commutator-closure and suitable control-resolution assumptions, the method cancels accumulated internal errors and improves the usual global error scaling from O(N{-1}) to O(N{-2}).

The authors explicitly limit their analysis to first-order trotterization because of its simplicity, while conjecturing that analogous scheduling principles may extend to more general product formulas. Such an extension would determine whether variable-weight error cancellation can be combined with higher-order product-formula constructions without requiring substantially more complicated pulse skeletons.

References

First, although we conjecture that similar scheduling ideas may apply to more general product formulas, we restrict the analysis here to first-order trotterization due to its simplicity.
