Eventual complete sorting at long times

Ascertain whether a phase-field monolayer comprising an equal mixture of extensile and contractile cells ultimately achieves complete macro–phase separation into distinct extensile and contractile domains at sufficiently long times, or remains microphase-separated.

Background

Beyond demonstrating microphase separation, the simulations suggest a possible dynamic steady state at long times, raising the question of whether full macrophase separation ever occurs.

The authors explicitly state uncertainty about complete sorting within the accessible simulation timeframe, motivating a precise determination of the long-time limit of the dynamics in this model.

It is unclear whether the layer can sort completely, as in Figure~\ref{fig:segregation} (d), at much longer times.
