Determine the effect of substituted calibration coefficients and conversion tables

Determine how substituting recalibration coefficients and conversion tables for the 1,477 affected Digital Typhoon Dataset V3 images influences the accuracy of their derived brightness temperatures.

Background

Digital Typhoon Dataset V3-2025.R1 contained images whose brightness temperatures were reconstructed using recalibration coefficients or conversion tables taken from nearby observations because the original coefficients or tables were unavailable. The corrected V3-2025.R2 release identifies 1,477 images affected by these substitutions and provides a file enabling users to exclude them.

The paper reports that the corrected release has only a limited effect on benchmark performance, but does not establish the numerical accuracy of the substituted brightness temperatures themselves. Consequently, the physical and quantitative impact of these substitutions on the affected observations remains unresolved.

The effect of the substituted coefficients and conversion tables on the accuracy of the brightness temperatures is not known; we provide the list of these 1,477 images with the dataset (substituted_conversion.csv) so that users can exclude them if necessary.
