Determine whether UTe2 has an additional closed three-dimensional Fermi-surface pocket

Determine whether UTe2 possesses an additional closed three-dimensional Fermi-surface pocket, including its possible location near the Γ or Z point and its bulk or surface origin.

Background

De Haas–van Alphen measurements establish that the dominant Fermi surface of UTe2 consists of two orthogonal quasi-one-dimensional sheets, but low-photon-energy ARPES and several DFT+DMFT or LQSGW+DMFT calculations have suggested an additional closed three-dimensional pocket. Other quantum-oscillation and transport studies find no compelling evidence for such a feature.

The predicted pockets are extremely shallow and may lie below the present ARPES resolution. Establishing their existence is consequential for determining the superconducting order-parameter symmetry and assessing possible topological superconductivity.

References

One of the central unresolved issues concerning its Fermi-surface topology is the possible existence of an additional closed three-dimensional (3D) Fermi-surface pocket.
