Use of harvested sensor data by Apple

Determine whether Apple uses the harvested phone sensor data to build and refresh its Wi-Fi, cellular, traffic and barometric databases.

Background

The paper observes uploads containing detailed sensor measurements and hypothesizes that Apple may use them to construct or update several positioning and traffic databases. However, the network measurements reveal what is transmitted, not how Apple processes or uses the data server-side. The proposed database-building purpose therefore remains unresolved.

References

Presumably Apple uses the data to build and refresh its Wi-Fi, cell, traffic and barometric databases, but we have not established this.
