Determine exclusivity status across missing auction cycles

Determine whether the 33 Ethereum transactions that were initially exclusive to a single builder and later included in a subsequent auction cycle won by the same builder remained exclusive or transitioned to private status during the intervening cycles not covered by the Agnostic Relay dataset used in this study.

Background

The paper analyzes Ethereum’s Proposer-Builder Separation (PBS) using a dataset from the Agnostic Relay to classify transactions as public, private, or exclusive. It tracks how transactions’ statuses evolve across bidding cycles within an 8-minute window on December 3, 2024.

While many transactions first observed as exclusive eventually become private or even public, the authors identify a subset of 33 transactions that start exclusive and later appear in a subsequent cycle won by the same builder. Because the intervening cycles are not present in the dataset, it remains unresolved whether these transactions maintained exclusivity or became private in those missing cycles.

We also find 33 transactions that were initially exclusive to a builder and later included in a subsequent cycle won by the same builder. Because those cycles are not in our primary dataset, we cannot determine whether the transactions remained exclusive or became private.
